About Copmany™

Founded in a year. Headquartered somewhere. Led by executives. We have been doing what we do for as long as it has been worth doing it, and we expect to keep doing it for at least one more cycle.

Our Story

From two people in a room to several thousand people, mostly in rooms.

Copmany was founded by founders, in a city, during a decade widely considered to be one of the decades. The original mission — to provide solutions — has been refreshed approximately every eighteen months and remains, in spirit, the original mission.

In our early years we focused on a small number of clients, mainly because we knew a small number of people. Through a combination of hard work, soft work, and the medium-textured work in between, we grew into the operating company we are today: a multinational provider of leading solutions to leading companies in every leading sector that leads.

Along the way, we acquired and integrated a number of smaller companies, several of which we have since renamed back to their original names. We are now organised across three operating segments, four reporting segments, and one set of footnotes that reconciles the two.

If you had asked us, in the year we were founded, to predict where we would be today, we would have correctly predicted that we would still exist. Founder & Honorary Chair Emeritus

The first office had two desks, three chairs, and a printer that was already broken when it arrived. The current global headquarters has approximately twelve hundred desks, as many ergonomic chairs as our wellness committee can defend, and a printer that has been pre-emptively classified as broken to manage expectations.

What has not changed across this period is the basic shape of what we do. A client has a problem. The problem is, in most cases, fundamentally a business problem. Copmany is a business. We engage. The problem becomes a deck. The deck becomes a programme. The programme becomes a follow-on engagement. The follow-on engagement becomes a long-term relationship. The long-term relationship becomes the basis of a future case study which we will then be unable to publish for confidentiality reasons.

Timeline

A selective history of our continued existence.

Dates have been rounded to the nearest fiscal year for narrative coherence. Where two events occurred in the same year, they have been arranged in order of which one we would prefer you to remember.

Our Values

Six values, plus one we are still workshopping.

Our values guide every decision we make, every meeting we hold, and every meeting we move to next week. They were arrived at through a global, bottom-up process led from the top.

Value 01

Excellence in excellence.

We pursue excellence excellently. We ask, of every deliverable: is this excellent? If the answer is yes, we ask again, more carefully.

Value 02

Integrity, where applicable.

Integrity is the foundation of trust, and trust is the foundation of repeat business. We act with integrity in all engagements where the engagement letter has been countersigned.

Value 03

Client-centric centrality.

The client is at the centre. We orbit. Where two clients occupy the same centre, we maintain separate orbits via a Chinese wall described in confidence.

Value 04

One Team, One Dream, One Slack Workspace.

We win together, lose together, and post about it together in a channel called #culture. Reactions are encouraged but not required.

Value 05

Bias for action items.

When in doubt, we leave the meeting with three to five action items, owners assigned, and a follow-up scheduled to review the action items.

Value 06

Curiosity, calibrated.

We are curious about the things our clients are curious about. We are not, by policy, curious about anything else during billable hours.

A seventh value (“Have Fun”) is currently in committee review. Implementation is targeted for a future fiscal period.
